 DoS Attack (Denial Of Service)

One of the more prevalant forms of antisocial behavior on the net these days is the Denial Of Service Attack (or DoS Attack, not to be confused with the other DOS - Disk Operating System).

Denial of Service Attacks (DoS) involve many types of connections being made to the target machine with the aim of making that machine unavailable to others that might wish to legitimately use it (eg, a web, email or IRC Server)

 IRC

IRC or Internet Relay Chat. A service that enables group conversations over the Internet. It is sometimes considered the keyboard equivalent of Citizens Band radio. IRC is the precursor technology to most Instant Messaging Services such as MSN Messenger and AIM (AOL Instant Messenger)
